Gareth has been instrumental in the foundation and development of Blackwell Adventure since it was formed in 2006.
He started his working life in engineering at Rolls Royce in Shrewsbury. During this time he was involved in the company’s apprenticeship scheme and ran their adventurous training programme. In 1980 he went to work for the national Scout Association as the Regional Officer for the West Midlands. In that role he worked with a large number of volunteers to promote the development of Scouting, including the re-establishment of Scouting in Poland after the demise of the communist regime. In 2000 he moved to work exclusively for the Birmingham Scout Association as their Director of Operations and started work on improvements to the county’s outdoor activity centre, Blackwell Court. This in turn led to the formation of Blackwell Adventure and the transformation of the centre into the modern and successful business it is today.
His real passion in life is encouraging individuals, both young and old, to reach their full potential and in particular to use the excitement of the outdoors to help achieve their aims.
